Last week Zrinski earned a hard fought point vs German Green White. Zrinski lead 3-2 but Green White was able to tie the match as they exectuted a 6th man attacker to perfection and tied the match with 24 seconds to go. On Sunday, Zrinski earned its 10th point as they downed Schwaben 5-2 on Sunday. Like most Metro matches the game was very physical and fast paced back and forth game. Zrinski took the lead early in the 5th minute on a Josh Stasko goal, his first of the year and 1st ever with Zrinski. Schwaben would strike next and even the match at 1-1 as the teams went to halftime. Sixteen seconds into the 2nd Half, Dani Martinez caught the Schwaben goalie off balance and beat him low to the near post with a left foot shot. Schwaben fought back but was truly unlucky as they just could not get keeper Marty Ruberry. Even when they did have him beat goals we're cleared off the line numerous times by defenders Dan Quinn, Chris Van Duerm, and Tom Zec who made is return to Zrinski after missing the first 3 matches. The heated match finally reached a bit of a boiling point as the teams bumped shoulders a few too many times after a 50/50 ball and the refs whistled both teams for a 2 Minute penalty. A fast paced 2 minutes was followed by a perfectly timed and weighted pass by Dani Martinez to a streaking Taylor Bond out of the penalty box, Bond calmly slotted the ball top shelf past the Schwaben keepr making the match 3-1. Scwhaben would get one back but it was man of the match Dani Martinez who would make it 4-2 on a perfect shot that left the keeper helpless. Martinez had extra inspiration today as him mother was visiting him from Spain and was there to cheer him on. Forward Ben Babo's hard work all year long was finally rewarded as the French born stiker slotted away his first goal ever for Zrinski as he put the match out of reach 5-2. Next up for Zrinski will be the Internationals who are playing some good soccer and are newly promoted. The teams square off at 3:15pm and Zrinski will try and keep their streak alive!!!
