Metro Update: Zrinski back with a win... Print E-mail

The 2010 Metro title is still up for grabs, but the Polish Eagles are definetly in the drivers seat.  Yesterday, Zrinski needed a win vs the Vikings to keep pace with the Eagles who handed the Maroons a 5-0 loss for their 6th straight win.  Last Sunday, Zrinski battled to a  4-4 tie with International l in a game where they squandered a 4-2 lead with 2 minutes to go but lost out on a win on a goal with 5 seconds left in the game.   Last nights match started off on the wrong foot as the Vikings went up 1-0 in the first minute of play.  But as they have all year, Zrinski battled back and showed why they deserve to be at the top of the table.  Relentless pressure and running was finally rewarded as Zrinski scored to even the match and then never looked back.  Zrinski workhorse Sean Fahey made it 2-1 on a blast that left the Vkings keeper helpless and then Dan Quinn found Jake Stasko at the back post to put the game out of reach 3-1.  The win leaves Zrinski with a shot at the title but they will have to win out their last 3 games and hope the Eagles lose 2 games.

Next week at 5:30pm Zrinski plays the Serbs in what is always one of the better matches of the year. The Eagles square off against the Vikings at 4:00pm.
